MLD for Plastic Surgery Recovery

MLD for plastic surgery recovery
Lymphatic massage can aid in the healing process of your scars by reducing swelling and helping prevent excess scar tissue from developing during your recovery. Swelling after any surgery is a normal and necessary part of the healing process, lymphatic massage helps drain excess fluid away from the surgical site leading to a reduction in swelling and bruising caused from tissue trauma. By promoting cellular waste drainage and proper circulation, lymphatic massage can shorten your overall recovery time and enhance the tone and texture of your skin.
How soon after surgery can you get a lymphatic massage?
Typically 24 hours after surgery, manual lymphatic drainage can begin but the exact timing depends on the type of procedure you've undergone and your doctor's recommendation.
How many sessions are needed?
First 2 weeks post-op suggested treatments 2-3 times a week.
1x/weekly for up to 8-12 weeks.
As needed once every other week to once a month up to 6-8 months post-op.

*** MLD for Post-Op does NOT involve the pushing of fluid (or blood) to leave the body through incision sites. It is a gentle pumping technique used to stretch the skin, guiding and stimulating the body to reabsorb the fluid through the lymph nodes where it is filtered and returned to the bloodstream to be expelled naturally through urination.
