This is an eastern adaptation of Barefoot Massage founded by Ruthie Hardee (Denver, CO) in 1995. The Japanese word for "Ashi" is foot and "atsu" is pressure.
This is not a foot rub, this is a form of bodywork that allows the therapist to utilize overhead bars for balance while using their feet to provide firm to deep soothing compressions along the spine and body.
